Sounding Off – Cameron Hayley:

It’s been a year since you made your debut at Charlotte Motor Speedway. What do you remember about the 1.5-mile oval?

“Charlotte was a track we were pretty strong at in 2015. We didn’t have the best qualifying attempt, we started outside the top-10, but immediately moved up in the race. We ran inside the top-five for awhile, but right there at the end, on those restarts, I made a couple of rookie mistakes and fell out of the top-10. I think I’ve gotten better personally, as a driver, and hopefully we can go back just as strong, and I can make up for it this year.”

Is there anything you learned in Atlanta earlier this year that you can apply to Charlotte?

“Yes, I think any mile-and-a-half will translate in terms of aero – how our trucks handle in the air. In terms of the track, Charlotte is a unique mile-and-a-half, just from a track temperature standpoint difference. It’s obviously a night race, but we practice and qualifying during the day. Turns 3 and 4 are tough especially. The sun bakes on it during the day, making it impossible to get it set up for the race. Charlotte is probably the biggest guessing game from practice to the race, and that’s just something we need to work on to make sure we have the right setup for the night.”

News & Notes:

  • Chassis Information…The No. 13 ThorSport Racing team will utilize chassis No. 38 for Friday night’s NC Education Lottery 200 at Charlotte Motor Speedway (CMS). This is the same chassis that Hayley piloted three times in 2015 at Atlanta Motor Speedway (14th), CMS (14th), and Dover International Speedway (21st).
  • In The Loop – 2016… According to NASCAR’s Loop Data statistics, Hayley is scored fourth in Driver Rating (92.2), fifth in Laps in the Top-15 (638), and sixth in Average Running Position (9.9).
  • Charlotte Rewind – 2015… In his track debut, Hayley started 13th, battled a tight Toyota Tundra throughout the night, and finished 14th.
  • Rearview Mirror – Dover… Hayley started a track-best fourth, and while running sixth, the ThorSport Racing driver lost fuel pressure prior to lap 120 of 200, and was forced to pit under green. The unfortunate chain of events caused Hayley to lose valuable track position, and ultimately relegated the ThorSport Racing driver to a 19th-place finish.
